Testing a theory

In researching online about the time of "solar maximum" that we're currently experiencing, I found a list of the dates of the most recent solar cycles, which begin and end during times of "solar minimum." The dates of solar maximum seem to occur about 4 years into each solar cycle. Our current solar maximum is a bit later than expected -- it was originally predicted for 2012-2013.

Based on that list of solar cycles, I now have an interesting theory to test out.

I noticed that the dates listed were significant in my life, especially in the realm of relationships/partnerships. Since the Sun in my natal chart is in the House of Partnerships, I started wondering if perhaps each time the Sun finishes one cycle and begins another, we earthlings experience an energetic shift in our personal lives based on the house location of the Sun in our natal charts.

So, if you'd like to play along and know the house location of the Sun in your natal chart, here is that list of dates marking the end of one solar cycle and the beginning of a new one:

February 1944
April 1954
October 1964
June 1976
September 1986
May 1996
January 2008

Are these dates (within a few months on either side) consistently significant for you, especially in the area of life represented by the house where your natal Sun resides? (If you need a reminder of what each of the astrological houses represents, click here to visit the "Houses" page on my website.)

This is just a theory, but I find it interesting to think about. Any comments?

  1. I just received this email question related to this post: "How do you figure out where your natal Sun resides? And, how do you know which house it was in on the dates of solar maximum?"

Since others may have the same questions, I've decided it would be good to share my answer here:

If you don't have your natal chart, it's easy to run one at www.astro.com. You'll need to set up a free account and log-in, but then you have the ability to run charts and to access a lot of astrological interpretation.

For your second question, all we're using for this is the location of our natal Sun in our natal chart -- so you don't need to worry about the Sun's location on the dates in the list.

Hope this is helpful! Thanks for asking.

  2. Curious about the effects on my natal 5th house Sun
    I found two remarkable events:
First, the ultimate ending of childhood (by the unexpected death of my 'favourite parent' who also was a native Leo Sun). Secondly, the realization of the unalterable fact that I happened to be a single mom with my children.

  3. Hi Martina -- Thank you for sharing this! It does validate some of my theory, since (as you clearly already know!), the 5th house is ruled by Leo and is the House of Children and Creativity. This does bear more research, it appears, since we seem to experience beginnings and endings of cycles in sync with the solar cycle. Blessings on your day, Pam

    1. Thank you, dear Pam!
Regarding the latest start of the new solar cycle one of my children had a successful change of school, giving me free way to an own creative nature protection project that I really enjoyed.
(But living in shifting times, we moved altogether, about two years later :)

  4. Hi Pam,

Your theory sounded interesting to me, so I decided to check the dates of the recent solar cycles, beginning with October 1964. (I wasn't born yet for the others.)

I found significant emotional events happened within about 6 months of each of the dates. Themes of abandonment and betrayal, all of them. Very interesting! I wonder what's next. I like to think I've learned about abandonment and betrayal and don't need to experience more. But now I'm concerned.

    1. Thank you for your post! It is a little disconcerting, to look at past cycles and find uncomfortable or even painful situations. I don't think we're destined to repeat the same challenges over and over again -- and to help us leave the past behind, it may be a good idea to look at what we learned at each of those previous dates. If we've learned that we treasure our independence and freedom, we can look at times we felt abandoned and interpret events differently. The betrayal theme is a tough one, for sure -- but some of the lessons we may learn are about boundaries and choosing to take care of ourselves instead of going into self-sacrifice. I hope this is helpful.
